Her forgiveness earned my loyalty and respect. I was bought in from that day, and I did my best to represent myself and the company well throughout each interaction. You can win more people over by forgiving them than administering the punishment they know they deserve. She forgave me for what should have been an easily-avoidable mistake and inadvertently taught me a lesson about forgiveness. Instead, she asked me what happened, then told me to be more careful in the future. I later walked in her office fully expecting to be written up and charged for several meals for this mistake. As expected, the manager on duty (and owner) was not very happy with me. Several customers requested free meals and other accomodations to make up for their salty surprise. It reminded me of my first time wrestling with my brothers in the Atlantic Ocean. That is when one of the customers yelled, “this is salty, and I’m a diabetic!” If you haven’t figured it out by now, I put about two giant scoops of salt in the “sweet tea.” I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t tasted it myself. I am sure it was only about four or five customers, but to me, it seemed like the entire restaurant was about to start a riot. I made a huge mistake.īefore long, everyone in the restaurant who previously had a taste for sweet tea was now waving their glass in the air while making a disgusted face. About five minutes later, one customer stopped me to tell me her tea did not taste right… Then another… Then another. Once I opened the second container, I observed the white granular content within and proceeded to scoop it into my buckets. The first container I opened was completely empty, so I quickly moved on to the second container. As I had done numerous times before, I grabbed two buckets and headed to grab sugar. Well, it was my turn to make some more sweet tea. I remember it like it was yesterday: the team and I were working hard to keep customers satisfied–refilling drinks, busing tables, serving orders etc. Remember those busy “crab leg nights” I mentioned? Funny story: I actually made a pretty big mistake during one of the busiest crab leg nights I’ve ever worked. That day I took an oath to never allow myself to become so consumed by my own self-worth that I am unable to willingly and cheerfully serve others. My conclusion was that I was frustrated because I felt this kind of work was “beneath me.” That was a red flag because it was contradictory to my can do, blue-collar philosophy. Even so, I had to question why I was getting frustrated with these type of customers who made up a very small percentage of the customers I served. Of course there was nothing wrong with “crab leg night” in general however, some customers really tested how far my attitude of servitude would stretch! They tested my humility!Ĭustomers complained about prices, questioned me about the quality of the food, threw crab legs on the floor, left a $0.27 tip, and truly tested my humility. Aside from holidays like Mother’s Day, these were by far the busiest shifts. I always envisioned I would use that blue-collar mentality to become the leader known for rolling up his sleeves and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his constituents to get the job done.Įven so, there was a part of my job as a server that completely humbled me–“crab leg night.” On “crab leg night,” we added crab legs and other seafood items to the buffet. Like seriously, I worked on a chicken farm in high school. I always considered myself a hard-working guy who does not mind getting dirty. Servitude is not about degrading the servant’s self-esteem as I previously believed instead, it is about putting another’s needs before your own to create an environment where everyone can grow, develop, and thrive. In fact, I learned that servitude is one of every successful organization’s core values, and it is one of each inspirational leader’s foundational principles. I often quipped, “I work and study hard, so I am no one’s servant!” It wasn’t until later that I truly understood and began to appreciate how important servitude is. I preferred to be called a “waiter” because “server” felt degrading, demeaning, and humiliating. My old job in Ruston, LA Wearing my “I determine my own destiny” t-shirt! Embrace Servitude.Īlthough my name tag introduced me as a “server,” I absolutely hated that label.

Now what it’s going to do is to look at these photographs and based on the features it’s going to stick them together. You could choose Auto, we could do Cylindrical – would probably work quite well but what we’ll going to do is we are just going to use Auto and just click OK. And now we’re just going to choose the Photo Merge option so this is going to open these full-size images right here inside the Photo Merge in Photoshop. So we are going to go under Tools and we’re going to choose Photoshop. So now what we need to do is just merge them together into Photoshop. What we are going to do is we’ll just going to click Done and then it applies the correction profile to each one of these photographs. We prefer to take JPEG pictures because we can get the photo quickly while it’s rotating through the air without getting thrown too much. So what we’re going to do now is just move down to the Lens options on the right side and the Lens Correction and we’ll choose Profile and enable the Lens Profile. So anything we do here is going to apply to them all at once. Now what we do is click Select all and this way you’ll notice all the photographs and now select it. So we’ve just going to choose Open in Camera Raw and with the most selected you’ll see they also like there in the left panel. So we’re just going to right-click and open these in Camera Raw. Now what we need to do is to get rid of the lens distortion before we can merge them together into Photoshop. The first thing we’ll going to do is just start from the first photo and select the mold by selecting the first one holding down shift and now we’ve got all the photographs and the entire sequence selected there. Throughout the building’s construction, Holmes apparently switched builders and architects frequently, so that no one involved was able to realize the gruesome end goal of all the odd parts. And the especially unlucky victims made it down to the basement, which hid the elaborate horrors for which the H. Those victims got to see the second floor - one that was allegedly full of “asphyxiation chambers,” mazes, and hidden stairs. Eerily, some of those unsuspecting residents may have eventually become Holmes’s victims. The third floor would contain apartments for new residents looking to make it big in the Windy City. Holmes planned for the first floor to contain an entire block of storefronts that he would be able to rent out to the flood of new businesses opening up in the city. Holmes Hotel, The “Murder Castle” Of Chicago Little did residents know that a house of horrors was about to emerge in that very same place. But Chicago was a city on the rise, and new construction was going up all over this part of the American Midwest.Īfter all, Chicago was perfectly situated on the shores of Lake Michigan as a central hub for the expansive railroad networks that crisscrossed the nation, all extending like spokes in a wheel from the city. The structure was ugly and large - containing more than 100 rooms and stretching for an entire block. In 1887, he bought an empty lot across the street from the store where he worked and began construction on a three-story building, which he said would be used for apartments and shops. In fact, he was so likable that at one point in his life, he was married to three unknowing women at once. Holmes was fashionable, bright, and likable. Whether you’re admiring the stunning vistas or taking in the sheer detail of the buildings you visit, you’re going to find yourself incredibly impressed with Draugen’s visuals. Graavik is full to the brim with luscious sights to see, with the visuals hitting an incredibly high standard and adding a vibe of beauty to just about everything you do in the game. On the other hand, some of the sights I encountered in Draugen will certainly stick with me for some time, with its idyllic Norwegian setting proving to be one of the most stunning I’ve seen in a video game for some time. That’s not to say that I was left unsatisfied with how events played out and Draugen certainly tells a good story – it just won’t stick in my memory for a long time like other titles in the genre have. I was certainly invested in the game’s tale, but I wasn’t on the edge of my seat waiting for the many twists-and-turns that would wrap everything up (though that could be partially owed to the game’s aforementioned predictability). JM: Well, so far, we’ve always worked with our friend Karl Flodin who does the music, but for Post Void, we actually did all the music together, like a band. So I started off by asking if Y/CJ/Y had always been just him and Christopher? Starting the interview off, I wanted to know how long Y/CJ/Y had been a team, more specifically, I wanted to know if the team had changed over the years. Finding time before the world cup finals we sat down and through the magic of the world-wide-web, had a wonderful conversation about a variety of topics ranging from feelings of self-doubt, to the insanity of seeing your fictional creations come to life. Unfortunately, Christopher Andreasson, one half of the team was unavailable at the time of the interview, but I was still ecstatic to have an opportunity to speak with lead artist and co-founder Josef Martinovsky about his work. Whether it be the dark depths of The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human, the Eldritch army simulator Sea Salt, or the absolutely unhinged speed and style of Post Void, Y/CJ/Y has succeeded in creating multiple memorable gaming experiences, and I was eager to learn about the methods to their madness. I reached out to Y/CJ/Y over Twitter, and thankfully, the team agreed to meet with me for a conversation about how they have come to create these worlds that so perfectly encapsulate a specific kind of chaos. And while I have yet to complete the gauntlet of guns, slides, and gore, I still occasionally boot up the game just to get a hit of that high-octane gameplay.īeing a fan of their work, and seeing how well Post Void has done over the past 2 years, I wanted to learn more about the history of the team, how they came to create the varied video games in their catalog, and their plans for the future. The heating instructions are on the back of the package so I just follow that and they came out great. To start you need to preheat the oven to 375. You can even use these wraps as the wrap itself! Gluten Free Cheese Crisps Recipe With this recipe I can make and store cheese crisps we use to pair with salads and also use in wraps instead of shredded cheese because cheese crisps add a yummy crunch. With my tween who is lactose sensitive, finding cheddar that is dairy free and actually tastes good has been a huge benefit. I’ll share this Gluten Free Cheese Crisps Recipe with you.įor this recipe I used the cheddar Folios cheese wraps. Some are so quick and easy and to think I was buying pre-made versions with less healthy ingredients.įor example, I now make my own tortilla chips with low carb tortillas and I also make my own cheese crisps for salads and wraps using Folios (gluten free and dairy free) cheese wraps. However, what I am finding is many recipes I have been making are one’s I should have been using all along. You can buy Folios at most grocery stores but in case your local store doesn’t have them or you’re not down with paying someone else for cheese slices when you have your own, here’s a recipe to make them yourself.I surely have been more adventurous in the kitchen now that I am stuck home. Splurge when it’s splurge-worthy and skip when it’s not. But statistically, most sandwiches are showing up on some Wonder Bread that doesn’t fill anyone with joy. You call it a refeed or make it fit into your macros and you enjoy it when that’s really part of what you want. Here’s my only caveat to this vehicle chat: if there is fresh, homemade sourdough bread available to you, or whatever your bread boyfriend is, you eat that. It’s just another way for me to get the stuff I really love (meat, cheese, veggies, sauces) without the stuff that doesn’t give me much joy (white sandwich bread…meh). I love to wrap sandwich fixings in huge lettuce wraps a la Jimmy John’s Unwich or in these cute cheese slices aka Folios. So, my personal sandwich hacks include changing the vehicle. (You feel me on that, right? I can’t be the only one who wears her lunch.) Most of the time, the bread just serves as the vehicle to get those things into my mouth without going all over my shirt. I like the combo of meats, cheeses, veggies, and sauces. What I REALLY love are all the ingredients BETWEEN the slices of bread. I’m still having the food I’m craving, but now it’s friendlier on my waistline. So, I’ve learned to have chicken w/ alfredo sauce and just skip the noodles…or use noodle alternatives like Zoodles or Miracle Noodles. Pasta itself doesn’t have a ton of taste and makes my stomach feel weird. Lol! Pasta, fettuccine in this case, was just the vehicle that delivered the chicken + alfredo combo that I loved so much. But you know what part of that really made me happy? The chicken…and the alfredo. When I think about my favorite foods before MacroEd, the things that I thought I LOVED like pizza, pasta, loaded potatoes, sandwiches, etc, I’ve come to learn that the part I loved about it was often not the processed, starchy, or carby part. This one-ingredient recipe is a home run for busy folks looking for a macro-friendly, low carb grab-and-go meal or snack. Consider them to be the vehicle that will deliver all your favorite cold sandwich fixings without the bread. Folios are an easy alternative to carby buns and wraps. |
